Mission:

The Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) is a pioneering, premier degree commerce college in India, situated in the city of Pune, Maharashtra. The College was established in 1943 by the Deccan Education Society with a view to providing enlightened leadership and trained manpower in the field of commerce and business to the country which was on the threshold of independence. It is situated at the foot of the rugged Fergusson College Hill and dotted with lush green trees and shrubs all around, it has a most picturesque and inviting atmosphere.

The College celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1993-94. As an Academic Project of the Golden Jubilee, we started the unique center for Vocational and Business Training namely, ‘C. G. Agashe Business Motivation, Training and Research Centre.’ Autonomous courses leading to entrepreneurship development, courses in Computer education are organized through our well-equipped and independent Computer Department.

 

The College celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in 2004-2005. As an academic project of Diamond Jubilee, we established an academic project of “Dr.D.G.Karve Chair in Commerce, Economics and Banking”.

The college has been receiving development grants from the Central and the State Government and the University Grants Commission as well. The College has rich library with rare collection of around 105000 books. The college has produced many notable leaders, businessmen, and industrialists like Dr.Cyrus Poonawalla and Smt. Sulajja Firodia, Dr.Ravi Pandit, Shri.Sharad Pawar, Shri.Ram Naik and many more.

 

Prof. D. G. Karve, a renowned Economist who was a Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for some time was the First Principal of the College. After Prof. Karve, several able, dedicated and distinguished Principals played a very significant role in the development of BMCC, Prin. S. V. Kogekar, Prin. Dr. T. M. Joshi, Prin. N. A. Mavlankar, Prin. Dr. N. K. Kulkarni and Prin. Dr. C. G. Vaidya, Prof. A. B. Deshpande and Existing Principal Dr. C. N. Rawal played a pivotal role in the development of the college.

 

BMCC has earned the award of from UGC for a third consecutive term, and twice from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). The college has received “ from the Academic Year 2017-18 from UGC, Government of Maharashtra and SPPU.
